ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX RGB Gaming Keyboard

When talking about ASUS ROG devices, sometimes what comes to our minds is usually aesthetics, build quality and prices that are more Sultan-oriented. Performance can be relative anyway. Well, we also thought the same when we first saw this new ASUS keyboard.

The price is definitely very expensive. Only when told about the value, it turned out to be quite tempting with an SRP of $98. In fact, at first we thought that the Scope RX RGB would be priced above $100, or even up to $200.

Unboxing The ASUS ROG Scope RX

In the packaging box for the purchase of Asus ROG Scope RX you get several items such as manuals, warranty books and ROG stickers. Too bad you don’t get things like Keycaps Puller or switch pullers. Because the keycaps of this mechanical keyboard cannot be replaced by arbitrary keycaps sets. You cannot use aftermarket set keycaps from third parties.

Design And Build Quality

The question is, why can this gaming keyboard be so special, and the fact that the price is even more tempting? First, the design that is brought must be really good, especially if you really like the bling-bling aesthetic that is full of RGB. In fact, each button has an independent RGB LED option with very bright lighting, it looks really classy. Manufacturers even provide lighting in the backlit section as well, plus the light effect can be adjusted via the Armory crate software or via the manual button with a combination of Fn and the right or left button.

The build quality that is present is very neat and looks classy. There are no minuses or defects in any finishing presented. Best of all, this keyboard has IP56 water and dust resistance features with claims that this keyboard has extra protection from water or dust spills. This keyboard can really make long-term assets with aluminum material, especially the top plate which is valuable for the durability side.

As a whole, the ROG Strix Scope RX RGB weighs about 1 kg and is about 44cm long, 13.7cm wide and 3.9cm thick. It doesn’t need a lot of space on the table and is ideal enough to be placed anywhere.

As for connectivity, this keyboard fully uses USB 2.0 with a fixed cable option of 1.8 meters. Unfortunately, this device requires two USB ports, where an extra option is available for the RGB feature. At least, there is a sacrifice for the RGB feature which will take extra power, even though it’s worth it.

This keyboard also carries an additional USB port for extra user needs to install other devices, such as a USB flash drive or charging smartphone devices. Unfortunately, the options are still limited to USB 2.0 devices only, although it’s better to have it than nothing, right?

The ROG RX RED Switches is Excellent

ROG Strix Scope RX RGB basically has full options for a keyboard, including the option of an extra numpad or a few additional bonus keys. And the core of this gaming keyboard is a switch based on the ROG RX Red Switch which is claimed to have consistent and wobble-free keystrokes with a response of only 1 ms. The lifetime of this ROG-style special switch is also very long which is claimed to be up to 100 million keystrokes.

This switch is really special with a very comfortable feel for extra activities such as typing, the mechanical sound is still there, just not too loud. It’s even really smooth like when trying the brown switch with an actuation level that doesn’t even need to be hard to press the button. It’s so special, you’ll even see the ROG logo on the switch, which other brands can’t offer.

So, this keyboard doesn’t seem to apply to gaming activities alone, you can even do things more like long-term typing activities. The double function offered will be an exciting magnet for hybrid gamers who have a lot of activities through the keyboard.

Each button that is present as we said before has an RGB LED feature with central lighting for extra lighting, a backlit ROG logo, and customizable light effects. On the other hand, you can adjust many things on the keyboard shortcuts such as adjusting brightness, play stop or pause or also adjust RGB lighting.

Great Keycaps + ROG RX RED Switches + Amazing Stabilizer Are Great for Typing And Gaming

The Double Shot ABS Keycaps Set on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX mechanical keyboard are keycaps made of excellent quality ABS plastic and paired with ROG RX RED Tactile switches that are very responsive when used for typing or playing games.

The quality of the stabilizer, especially on the spacebar buttons, feels really great. I can say that the stabilizer on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX mechanical keyboard is one of the best stabilizers for mechanical gaming keyboards. The stabilizer works very well on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX, the buttons don’t vibrate and don’t shake when pressed very often. This makes the experience of pressing the buttons on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX very enjoyable.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX has a very good keycaps set. the distance between one button to another is ideal and easy to reach by fingers. The feeling of typing on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX that uses the ROG RX RED switch provides typing feedback that is quite pronounced but the sound produced is quite minimal for a tactile type switch.

Overall, the Keycaps, ROG RX RED Switch, and Stabilizer on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX mechanical keyboard can provide a responsive and accurate typing or gaming experience.

Amazing RGB Feature

To change the RGB effect you can use the key combination FN + Right or FN + Left and to adjust the brightness FN + Up or FN + Down. ROG Strix Scope RX is equipped with a very good RGB LED, this is one of the most powerful Non Underglow RGB in my opinion.

Besides being able to customize RGB via the keyboard layer function, you can also use software from ROG Strix Scope RX which can function to change RGB modes and change RGB animations as you wish. Overall ROG Strix Scope RX has a very nice and bright RGB Led.

ROG Strix Scope RX Software

ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX has excellent software support. Through this software you can reprogram the macro key functions as you wish. Adjusting the RGB LED is also of course, starting from changing modes or changing RGB animations, turning RGB on several individual buttons can be done with this software.

Through the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX software you can also create a profile of your keyboard and store it in the on-board keyboard memory. You can access it at any time. For example you create a profile for gaming by setting macro keys for playing games, whereas you also create a profile for normal use. All the profiles you create can be stored in the on-board memory and can be accessed via the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX software when you need them. We haven’t found out if this software has a cloud storage option.

Overall the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX software works very well and the menu navigation is quite easy to use. The interface is also very friendly and looks cool.

Very Useful USB 2.0 Passthrough Port

An additional feature on the ROG Strix Scope RX is a USB 2.0 Passthrough port located in front of the right side of the keyboard. This can be useful for connecting your charger to your smartphone to charge or send data. Not only that, you can use it to transfer your files through this port with a USB flash drive, this is a pretty helpful feature.

We do not recommend you use this USB port for your gaming mouse, you will find a little delay when you use it. Maybe this only happens to my gaming mouse, because I’ve never tried any other mouse.

Connectivity and Compatibility

ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX only supports connectivity via USB to your computer device. No wireless or bluetooth. I thought with the USB Port 2.0 passthrough I could use my USB 2.0 Bluethooth dongle to connect to the laptop, but it didn’t work on the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX mechanical keyboard.

For compatibility, the ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX mechanical keyboard is very compatible with Windows, MacOS, and Linux operating systems.
